September 8th Begins Call in Day(s)
Tomorrow (and the next week) is an important time for ERDC advocates. The legislature is seriously considering spending additional resources on ERDC. We must now advocate for what we want them to spend the money on. Right now, they are considering using resources to "grandfather" in current ERDC enrollees who qualify because of their income. BUT they will move forward with the policy change that limits new enrollment to those recently receiving TANF. This is THE POLICY CHANGE that One Voice has been fighting against for over a year. We must contact the Legislature and tell them that "grandfathering is not enough."

Help Keep Families Working, Save Oregon Jobs
Save Employment Related Day Care (ERDC) for working families
Quality, affordable childcare is vital to keeping parents in the workforce. Unfortunately, too many Oregon families struggle to afford child care, which averages $20,000/ yr for two children. The Employment Related Day Care (ERDC) assistance program helps working families whose income is less than 185% of the Federal Poverty Level ($40,800 annually for a family of four) afford day care.
Don't force working families to turn to welfare before qualifying for ERDC. If the current cut moves forward, ERDC will only be available for families recently receiving TANF. For 7,000 working families (nearly 13,000 children) making 185% FPL, ERDC will be eliminated. Losing this assistance will force many parents to quit their jobs.
Current legislative proposals to save ERDC are inadequate. "Grandfathering" in current working families is not the solution, because ERDC will still be eliminated in the future for working families earning under 185% FPL. "Grandfathering" in current enrollees still moves forward with the bad policy change to limit future ERDC recipients to only those who recently received TANF.
Please act now to save ERDC. Write or call state budget leaders, urging them to save ERDC for working families.
